About the Area
Shannon Lake is located 90 minutes west of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. It is only 24 km south of Middleton on Hwy 10.
The highway is paved except for the last 2.5 km off Hwy 10.
The night sky is great for stargazers and there is virtually no light pollution. The area is known for the best night sky in the country.
Distances from Shannon Lake to Nearby Centres
Shannon Lake is far enough away from civilization to feel that you have left it all behind, yet close enough that you can access amenities when you need them.
We’re only a 24 km drive from Middleton in the Annapolis Valley. A little further takes you to Kingston and the Greenwood Mall. These small towns provide all essential services, such as grocery stores, banks, post offices and department stores.
Kentville, with a regional hospital, New Minas, the shopping centre of the Annapolis Valley, and Wolfville, the home of Acadia University, are within an hour’s drive.
Bridgewater, another full service town with a regional hospital, is less than an hour’s drive to the south, and gives access to the South Shore with its lovely beaches and historical towns.
Shannon Lake is less than two hours drive from Halifax and Stanfield International Airport.
The Immediate Area
A few kms north of the development is the rails to trails system. This backwoods trail is good for hiking, mountain biking, quads and snowmobiles and other recreational uses.
The local trails connect to hundreds of miles of other backcountry trails. There are also numerous backwoods lakes to explore.
We’re far enough away from towns and cities that at night there is virtually no light pollution. It’s a stargazer’s paradise. In the daytime, you are surrounded by lakes and forests. Here is what you will see:
